Pat Cummins created history on Sunday as he became the first bowler ever to take a hat-trick each in back-to-back T20 World Cup games, while playing against Afghanistan. His mesmerizing bowling display saw him knock over Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan at 17.6 over, followed by Karim Janat (19.1 over) and Gulbadin Naib (19.2 over), in three successive deliveries across his two overs.
This is only the eighth time a hat-trick has been taken by a bowler in the Men's T20 World Cup, Cummins became the first to do so more than once according to ICC.
The 29-year-old joins the list of players who netted hat-tricks at the Men's T20 World Cup: Brett Lee in 2007, Curtis Campher in 2021, Wanindu Hasaranga in 2021, Kagiso Rabada in 2021, Karthik Meiyappan in 2022, and Josh Little in 2022.
Earlier in the tournament, Cummins had also taken a hat-trick in a game against Bangladesh, becoming only the second Australian after Brett Lee to do so in the T20 World Cup. His consistent and stellar performances have really accorded him the reputation of being one of the top bowlers in the game at the moment.
