After a second-place finish in the Diamond League Final, Neeraj Chopra took to social media to reflect on his 2024 campaign. The 26-year-old, one of India's leading athletes, also revealed he did the Brussels event with a fractured fourth metacarpal in his left hand.
"As the 2024 season comes to an end, I look back on everything that I've learned through the year-about improvement, setbacks, mentality and more. On Monday, I injured myself in practice and an X-ray showed that I had fractured the fourth metacarpal in my left hand. It was another painful challenge for me. But with the help of my team, I was able to participate in Brussels," wrote Chopra in his post.
Neeraj Chopra, India's first-ever athletics gold medal winner at the Olympics, finished second at Brussels in the Diamond League Final last night. He was left just a 1 cm short of topping the podium. Anderson Peters won it and topped the chart, hurling the spear to a distance of 87.87m. He won the bronze medal at the Paris Olympics.
Chopra's lacklustre 2024 came to an end in the Diamond League Final at Brussels that concluded with him finishing second at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He had earlier this season produced a second-place finish at the Paris Olympics, Doha Diamond League, and Lausanne Diamond League.
"This was the last competition of the year, and I wanted to end my season on the track.". Though I did not win my expectations, I felt that was a season where I learned a lot. Now, I am geared to go back, full fitness, and ready to roll. All of you, thank you for your encouragement. 2024 has made me a better athlete and person. See you in 2025," added the gold medallist at the Tokyo Olympic Games.
