In a stellar performance at the ICC ODI World Cup match against Netherlands in M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, KL Rahul etched his name in history as the fastest Indian batter to reach a century, achieving the milestone in just 62 deliveries.
This remarkable feat surpassed the previous record held by Rohit Sharma, who achieved a century in 63 deliveries against Afghanistan.
Notably, this marked Rahul's second century in the World Cup and his first in the ongoing edition.
Additionally, he joined the elite ranks of Rahul Dravid, becoming the second Indian wicketkeeper-batsman to score a century in the World Cup.
Dravid, a trailblazer in this regard, accomplished this feat in the 1999 World Cup with a memorable 145-run innings against Sri Lanka.
KL Rahul's impressive innings comprised 11 boundaries and six maximums, culminating in a score of 102 before being dismissed by Bas de Leede on the second last ball of the inning.
As Rahul made history, Shreyas Iyer's unbeaten 128 off 94 balls contributed to India finishing their innings at an imposing 410/4.
The match showcased India's batting prowess and set a formidable benchmark in the ODI World Cup.
