Jasprit Bumrah has been recovering from a lower back stress injury, which he suffered on the second day of the final Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test against Australia in Sydney. The injury kept him from bowling during the match's second innings, as Australia went on to take the series 3-1.
Bumrah, Player of the Series in Australia for his remarkable 32-wicket haul, was then excluded from India's Champions Trophy-winning tour despite being part of the initial squad. After undergoing back surgery in 2023, the pacer has been receiving rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru.
Bumrah is likely to report to the Mumbai Indians (MI) team by early April, subject to clearance from the BCCI CoE medical team, as per a Friday report by ESPNcricinfo. The report also added that it was not clear how many games he would miss or whether a specific date of return had been fixed.
Mumbai Indians will kickstart their IPL 2025 journey with two back-to-back away matches—first against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on March 23 in Chennai, followed by a game against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad on March 29.
Their maiden home fixture at Wankhede Stadium is on March 31 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). MI will then head to Lucknow to play Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 4 before coming back to Mumbai to play Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 7.
