It's not what we did today but what we did for past 3-4 years: Rohit Sharma Reflects on India's Triumph

"I'm overwhelmed and can't quite articulate the emotions I'm feeling right now. Words fail to capture it. I spent a sleepless night, consumed by a deep desire and determination. But I kept my composure on the field," Rohit remarked, becoming the third Indian captain, after Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni, to secure a global title.

Just like Rome wasn't built in a day, Rohit Sharma, India's emotional skipper, attributed their second T20 World Cup victory not merely to flawless execution on the final day, but to the culmination of meticulous preparation over the past three years. India ended their decade-long trophy drought by defeating South Africa in a thrilling final by seven runs.

"It's hard to encapsulate all that we've gone through in the past three to four years. It's not just about today's performance but everything we've done leading up to this," he added reflectively.

Acknowledging the pressure following their ODI World Cup defeat the previous year, Rohit emphasized the team's ability to thrive under pressure. "We've faced numerous high-pressure situations and have often been on the wrong side. But today was a perfect example of sticking together, even when our backs were against the wall."

Praising the team management and players for their response, Rohit highlighted their collective effort. "We had a strong desire to win, and it required everyone's contribution. I'm incredibly proud of this group of players and the management, who allowed us the freedom to play with trust and belief."

Reflecting on Virat Kohli's form, Rohit dismissed any concerns about his teammate's recent performances. "There was never any doubt about Virat's form. He's been at the top of his game for fifteen years. In crucial moments, big players step up. His ability to hold one end was crucial for the others to play around him. The pitch didn't allow free scoring, but his experience shone through."

Commenting on Jasprit Bumrah's exceptional skills, Rohit admitted his difficulty in describing them. "Jasprit's bowling is simply masterful. He backs his skills with confidence, and his performances throughout the tournament were exemplary."

Acknowledging Hardik Pandya's contribution, especially after a challenging IPL season, Rohit praised his teammate's resilience. "Hardik was brilliant, especially in bowling the final over. I'm proud of all the boys and grateful to the fans worldwide, from New York to Barbados and back home in India, who have supported us tirelessly."
