A development of significance is that there have been reports of slight changes in the IPL window for the next three seasons. As per a report from ESPN Cricinfo, the upcoming edition of the IPL will begin on March 14.
Normally, IPL happens from the last week of March and goes on till the last week of May or the first few days of June. However, according to the latest email sent to the franchises by BCCI, IPL 2025 will now start on March 14 and will go on till May 25.
IPL 2025 Likely To Begin On March 14
The 2026 season was to take place between March 15th and May 31st, while the 2027 season would take place from March 14th to May 30th.
While the window has been extended by some margin, the number of matches will still remain the same. There had been reports going on that BCCI will increase the number of matches to 90+ for the coming season, but that is untrue, and the IPL 2025 will see the usual 75 matches.
Further, the BCCI has also held a discussion with other boards with regard to the same, and they have received an overseas players' availability nod for the next three years during the IPL window.
PSL Owners Fear Overlapping Issue With IPL
The Champions Trophy 2025 would be hosted in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9, and the players would fly out to India thereafter for the IPL.
That means the PSL window would be pushed and maybe clash with IPL. However, PSL franchise owners are sweating hard to get overseas players and also wrote to PCB hinting at their disappointment. They urged the board to talk to foreign boards regarding players' availability fearing that they might pick IPL over PSL.
