Punjab Kings co-owner and Bollywood actress Preity Zinta has filed legal action against her other co-directors Mohit Burman and Ness Wadia in a Chandigarh court. All three are directors of KPH Dream Cricket Private Limited, the entity that owns the IPL franchise Punjab Kings.
Sources indicate that Zinta has challenged the legality of the April 21 EGM on grounds that it was held without following the proper procedures as stipulated by the Companies Act, 2013, and other secretarial requirements.
She has asserted that she had protested against the meeting through an April 10 email, but these objections were overlooked. As per her, Mohit Burman went ahead with the meeting, purportedly supported by Ness Wadia.
While Zinta and another director, Karan Paul, attended the meeting, she has moved the court to set the proceedings aside as null and void. One of the main points of disagreement is the induction of Muneesh Khanna as a director in the course of the meeting, which was done against the wishes of both Zinta and Paul.
In her court complaint, Zinta has also asked for an injunction to keep Khanna from operating as a director and to prevent the company from acting on any decisions taken during that meeting.
She has also asked the court to stop the company from holding any board or general meetings without her and Karan Paul present and without Muneesh Khanna being present until the issue is settled.
In spite of the continuous legal battle, Preity Zinta has continued to be a public face of Punjab Kings, supporting the team from the stands throughout the 2025 IPL season. The team is going through a successful campaign under captain Shreyas Iyer.
Punjab Kings have achieved a playoff berth for the first time since 2014, with 17 points from 12 matches and third position currently, with hopes to end up in the top two.
Their next fixtures are against Delhi Capitals in Jaipur on Saturday, May 24, and Mumbai Indians on Monday, May 26, as they conclude their league stage.
