The final of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) will be played on June 3 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, according to a Cricbuzz report.
The report suggests Ahmedabad will also be the venue for Qualifier 2 on June 1. The first two playoff games—Qualifier 1 on May 29 and the Eliminator on May 30—will probably take place in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made these arrangements after holding a series of high-level discussions.
The rescheduling of the venues and schedule was due to two developments: the advance onset of the monsoon season and a week's suspension of the tournament on account of rising cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan.
IPL 2025 was briefly suspended on May 9 and resumed only on May 17. The final, originally scheduled on May 25, had to be postponed by more than a week to its new date, June 3.
This would be what may be the third time that the Narendra Modi Stadium, the world's biggest cricket stadium, becomes the venue for an IPL final. The stadium had hosted the finals in 2022 and 2023 before. Interestingly, in Gujarat Titans' first year in 2022, COVID-19 protocols kept Ahmedabad to only two games that it had to host: Qualifier 2 and the final. The Titans won the trophy that year, and the venue kept hosting the final in 2023 too.
In an effort to avoid rain from causing interruptions in fixtures across most of India in late May, the BCCI has selected venues whose climates are relatively dry to reduce the potential of weather interruptions throughout the playoffs.
As of now, three teams—Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Punjab Kings—have guaranteed themselves a spot in the playoffs. The fourth position is yet to be decided, with the Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals engaged in a close battle for qualification.
