IPL 2025: Bumrah available for selection for MI-RCB game at Wankhede Stadium, says Jayawardene

"He's ready. He's training today and should be fit to play against RCB," Jayawardene said. "He came in last night, finished his sessions at the NCA (now CoE), and has been taken over by our physios. He's bowling in today's practice—so all is well."

Mumbai Indians have been handed a huge boost prior to their do-or-die IPL 2025 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru as star pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled fit and available for selection. Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene announced the news during a pre-match press conference on Sunday.

"He's ready. He's training today and should be fit to play against RCB," Jayawardene said. "He came in last night, finished his sessions at the NCA (now CoE), and has been taken over by our physios. He's bowling in today's practice—so all is well."

Bumrah had been off duty since when he picked up a back niggle during the fifth Border-Gavaskar Test in Sydney. Rehab at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) excluded him from India's winning 2025 Champions Trophy run.

With MI having won just one game in the tournament till date, Bumrah's return could not have been better timed. The speedster boasts a fantastic record at the Wankhede against RCB—his five-wicket haul in their last encounter at the venue saw MI comfortably win the game by seven wickets.

Since his IPL debut in 2013, Bumrah has taken 165 wickets in 133 appearances for MI. The only season he missed was in 2023 due to surgery for a back injury.

Jayawardene also shared an update on veteran batter Rohit Sharma, who missed MI’s recent 12-run defeat to Lucknow Super Giants after a knee injury during training.

“Ro looks good,” he assured. “It was an unfortunate knock while batting, which made it uncomfortable. He’ll bat today, and we’ll assess from there.”

As MI prepare to host RCB at the Wankhede on Monday, the return of their pace spearhead and a potential comeback from Rohit Sharma could be the shot in the arm the team needs to turn their season around.
