Pant was released by Delhi Capitals before this year's auction. Pant had been part of the Capitals' set-up since 2016 and was made captain ahead of the 2021 season in place of an injured Shreyas Iyer. Pant has been retained as the captain for IPL 2022.

Pant returned to the playing field in IPL 2024 after he had fully recovered from the traumatic injuries inflicted on his body in a life-threatening car accident in December 2022. When back in form, he was reinstated as captain of Delhi Capitals and he piled up 446 runs for what would be another season to forget for Delhi Capitals.

Pant had not played a T20I since his car accident in December 2022, but strong performance in IPL 2024 got him into this year's T20 World Cup won by India.

The 27-year-old has scored 3,284 runs in 111 matches in the IPL.
