Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has been fined 30% of his match fees for showing dissent at the decision of an umpire during the match against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
A brilliant 86 off 46 balls by Samson finally came to an end in an exciting manner when Shai Hope took a stunning catch at long-on, just inside the boundary rope, off the bowling of Mukesh.
Initially, it did appear that Hope had taken a clean catch, an impression supported by several replays. But a different angle brought a hint of doubt on whether the catch was indeed legal. Yet, the third umpire still upheld the on-field decision and ruled Samson out.
At the decision, the RR captain looked pretty upset with the prompt decision but initially began walking back towards the dugout. However, he turned back to discuss the matter with the umpires.
According to the statement from BCCI/IPL, "Samson was found guilty of a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL's Code of Conduct. He admitted the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by the Match Referee."
The statement,“For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” it added.
