Cricket South Africa confirmed Ngidi's release from Delhi Capitals in light of his ongoing recovery, stating, “Proteas fast bowler Lungi Ngidi has been released by Delhi Capitals for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 as he continues his recovery from a lower back injury.”

The statement further revealed that Ngidi incurred the injury during the SA20 playoffs last month and is currently undergoing rehabilitation under the supervision of Cricket South Africa's medical team and his provincial team, the Momentum Multiply Titans. His anticipated return to action is slated for the latter stages of the ongoing CSA T20 Challenge in April.
