Royal Challengers Bengaluru put up a great show as they emerged victorious against Delhi Capitals in the latest clash of the Indian Premier League 2024. Rajat Patidar and Will Jacks got together for an 88-run partnership off 53 balls for the third wicket and paved the way for RCB's victory. Patidar's 52, played in a composed manner, and Jacks' 41, played in an aggressive manner, were well supported by Cameron Green's unbeaten 32 and the impactful bowling figures of 3-20 by Yash Dayal.
Even though DC dropped four catches during RCB's early stage of the game, RCB continued their attacking game and cruised through to a competitive total of 187/9. However, DC bowlers put up a great fight during the last five overs, stifling RCB's surge and keeping the total below the mark of 200.
During DC's chase, they began to falter right at the beginning as they lost wickets at regular intervals during the Power-play, further aggravated by the loss of captain Rishabh Pant due to suspension. Though Axar Patel fought valiantly with 57 runs off 39 balls, the rest of the DC line-up failed to support him as they succumbed to the RCB bowling.
Notably, the DC chase was marred with runouts—Jake Fraser-McGurk and Tristan Stubbs being run out—to add to their troubles. The win sees RCB and DC tied on 12 points in the IPL standings, but RCB's superior net run rate takes them a spot above DC, who are now sixth.
The RCB batting innings was all about those moments of brilliance: Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli chipped in with valuable runs before Patidar and Jacks took charge of the game. There were a few hiccups in between, but RCB managed to post a competitive total thanks to useful contributions from various batsmen.
The DC chase started on a pretty shaky note as wickets fell with regularity, and DC just could not stitch together any substantial partnerships. While Axar Patel fought a lone battle, the bowlers from RCB kept a good hold on them to finally win the match for their side.
In a nutshell, RCB's comprehensive performance—driven by their prowess with the willow and diligent bowling effort—sealed a critical win for them in IPL 2024, keeping their playoff hopes alive, while DC will be left to think hard on their next steps in the tournament.
