In the four-day, one-off Test match at the Wankhede Stadium, India Women's first innings lasted just 36 minutes on the third morning. They added 30 runs to their overnight score, getting all out for 406 runs, establishing an overall lead of 187 runs over Australia Women.
This score of 406 marks the first time India has scored 400 runs against Australia in Women's Tests, surpassing their previous best of 377/8 declared in 2021.
Starting at 376/7, India's hopes were pinned on Deepti Sharma and Pooja Vastrakar to extend their lead past 200 runs. However, Australia's bowlers, Kim Garth and Annabel Sutherland, used short-pitched deliveries effectively to unsettle the Indian batters.
Vastrakar managed back-to-back boundaries but was dismissed in the same over by Sutherland for a 126-ball 47. She and Deepti Sharma had added 122 runs for the eighth wicket, making it the second-highest partnership for the eighth wicket in Women's Test cricket.
Deepti Sharma was the top scorer for India with 78 runs off 171 balls before being bowled by Garth. Renuka Singh Thakur contributed with a boundary but was out shortly after.
Kim Garth claimed 1-9, and Sutherland bagged 2-21 as the Indian innings concluded swiftly on the third morning.
The scorecard stands at Australia Women 219, trailing India Women's 406 by 187 runs.
