Suryakumar Yadav will lead the T20I squad, while Rohit Sharma will be retained as captain for the ODI leg in India's upcoming tour to Sri Lanka. Shubman Gill has been appointed vice-captain in both formats. Rishabh Pant figures in both teams alongside Shivam Dube, Mohammed Siraj, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, and Khaleel Ahmed.
Debutant Riyan Parag, who made his debut T20Is against Zimbabwe, found his maiden ODI call-up with Harshit Rana too finding a place in the squad. Virat Kohli and K.L. Rahul along with Shreyas Iyer make up the 50-over team.
The tour begins with T20Is from July 27 in Pallekele and will be followed by ODIs from August 2 at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.
Gautam Gambhir will be inducted as the head coach of India for the first time in his career. He succeeds the incumbent Rahul Dravid after India's win in the 2024 T20 World Cup. The BCCI intends to monitor the availability of players very closely with the domestic cricket season slated in the coming weeks.
