In fact, according to Travis Head, Australia's left-handed opener, it was something "extremely difficult" to face India. At the same time, he expressed satisfaction with his performances in the same format against the Rohit Sharma-led side, he said.
Head was a thorn in the flesh for India in 2023, especially in the World Test Championship final and the ODI World Cup final, where, on the England soil and Ahmadabad grounds, he was at his best and recorded consecutive centuries against India to give his team an elbow-up over them.
Under this pressure, Head received a chance in the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup against Australia at St Lucia this year. This time too, he chased a target of 206, blazing at 76 off 43 balls before getting dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah with one ball remaining as Australia failed to match India's total by 24 runs.
I don't feel like they are my favorite. I just feel that we play them a lot, play them a lot. I guess the last two years I was in pretty good form. So playing well, it's always good. I guess there is nothing challenging about trying to get up for the contest. It's highly competitive. It's easier to get up for the game. So I wouldn't say they are my favorite," Head said to Star Sports.
Looking ahead, the series to be held between India and Australia from November 22 to January 7, 2025 is going to be a five-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. No one would expect anything less than such hectic schedules, after all, when India and Australia start their contest and this is for the first time since 1991/92 that a full series of five tests will be played between these two nations. Perth is followed by a pink-ball match in Adelaide, then Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney. Head, who bats in the middle order for the Australian Tests, has been eyeing this significant series.
"They're really tough it's been nice to play well in a few games and looking forward to preparing well and being ready to go and let's hope hopefully I can contribute to what's a successful summer for us," he added.
India has won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy twice on Australian soil in recent years, in 2018/19 and 2020/21.
