IND v SA: KL Rahul's Stellar 101 Guides India to 245 All Out in First Innings at Centurion

Navigating the challenges of the pitch, which favored fast-bowlers with its bounce and swing, Rahul showcased a blend of caution and aggression.

In an impressive display, KL Rahul, the wicketkeeper-batsman, transformed his initial score of 70 into a remarkable century on the first day of the opening Test against South Africa at SuperSport Park. His resilient innings guided India to a total of 245 runs in their first innings.

Navigating the challenges of the pitch, which favored fast-bowlers with its bounce and swing, Rahul showcased a blend of caution and aggression. His ability to capitalize on loose deliveries while steadfastly handling the difficult conditions steered India from a precarious 121/6 to a respectable score through his splendid knock of 101.

Facing a demanding pitch, Rahul marked his return to Test cricket with one of his finest centuries. The crowd and the entire Indian team honored his achievement with a standing ovation, acknowledging his exceptional performance.

His innings of 101 comprised 14 boundaries and four sixes, marking his second century at the venue, making him the overseas batter with the most Test centuries at this ground. It also marked his seventh Test century outside India. Rahul joins Rishabh Pant as the second Indian wicketkeeper-batsman to achieve a Test century in South Africa, with Pant achieving the feat in Cape Town in January 2022.

Day two witnessed a delayed start due to a wet outfield and light drizzle. Despite facing a barrage of deliveries from Kagiso Rabada, who claimed a five-for on day one, Rahul exhibited patience and skill. He countered Rabada's deliveries with finesse, driving and pulling with precision. Eventually, he reached his hundred with a stylish pull for six over deep mid-wicket, drawing praise from Ravi Shastri, who labeled it as Rahul's best Test century.

However, Rahul's innings was halted when Nandre Burger dislodged his middle-stump shortly after he reached the milestone. Nevertheless, his innings proved pivotal, ensuring India posted a competitive total, a prospect that seemed distant earlier in the game.
