This performance lifted him 15 places up the rankings; he started the series at No. 23, having earlier reached a career-high of 14th in September last year.

In the meantime, England's Harry Brook has replaced compatriot Joe Root as the world's No. 1 ranked Test batsman. Brook's 158 in the first innings of the second Test at Edgbaston guaranteed his return to the top—a spot he briefly occupied last December. Root, ranked second now, lost 18 rating points as a consequence.

India's pace pair, Mohammad Siraj and Akash Deep, both made notable strides in the bowling rankings. Siraj's seven-wicket haul placed him six places higher at 22nd, while Akash Deep jumped 39 places to a career-high 45th after taking his first 10-wicket match haul.
