In a gesture of sportsmanship, Ravindra Jadeja extended his apologies to teammate Sarfaraz Khan following an unintended run-out during the first day of the 3rd Test against England in Rajkot.
Sarfaraz had been swiftly advancing in his innings, achieving his debut half-century in a mere 48 deliveries. However, his endeavor to prolong his time at the crease was abruptly halted by a misunderstanding with Jadeja.
The incident triggered a visible reaction from Indian captain Rohit Sharma in the dressing room, captured by broadcast cameras as he tossed his cap in frustration after the run-out.
Reflecting on the incident after the match, Jadeja took to Instagram to express remorse to Sarfaraz for the confusion.
“Feeling bad for Sarfaraz Khan. It was my wrong call. Well played,” the veteran all rounder wrote in his Instagram story.
Sarfaraz also addressed the matter in the post-match press conference, attributing such occurrences to the nature of the game.
“He came to dressing room and said, ‘Thoda sa miscommunication ho gaya tha… (there was a bit of a misunderstanding).’ I said to him, ‘Ye hota rehta hai’. It’s part of the game,” Sarfaraz said.
In his debut innings donning India's whites, Sarfaraz exhibited an aggressive approach, striking nine boundaries and a six to counteract India's early setbacks, forming an 87-run partnership with Jadeja.
Initially opting to bat after winning the toss in Rajkot, India faced early setbacks, losing three wickets in the opening session with a score of 33/3. However, skipper Rohit Sharma, alongside Jadeja, spearheaded a remarkable recovery, constructing a formidable 204-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
Despite the loss of five wickets, India concluded the day's play with a commendable total of 326 runs on the scoreboard, with Jadeja standing unbeaten at 110. Kuldeep Yadav had just commenced his innings, while Dhruv Jurel, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Axar Patel were yet to follow.
