On Thursday, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal said that the league's continuation depends on government instructions, considering the current military tensions with Pakistan. But he assured that Friday's Lucknow Super Giants vs Royal Challengers Bangalore match is set to go ahead "as of now."
The fate of the tournament hung in the balance after Thursday's Punjab Kings v Delhi Capitals match was suddenly abandoned in Dharamsala amid air raid warning alerts issued for neighboring cities like Jammu and Pathankot.
Dhumal clarified, "We are considering the situation at present. It is a developing situation. We have not got any directive from the government. Obviously, the decision will be made keeping all the logistics in view," in a PTI statement.
Speaking about Friday's game in Lucknow, he said, "Yes, it is on as of now, but clearly, it is an ongoing situation, and any call will be made keeping the best interest of all stakeholders in mind."
After the Dharamsala match was called off, support staff and players from both teams will be brought to Delhi in a special train from Pathankot, around 85 km from the hill station. Both teams will be driven to Pathankot by road since Dharamsala's airport, as well as the ones at nearby Kangra and Chandigarh, is shut as a precautionary step to avoid any possible Pakistani attack.
The military attacks are in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
