CSK last lifted the IPL trophy in 2023, but their recent struggles had raised questions over Fleming’s future with the team. The franchise failed to reach the playoffs in the 2024, 2025 and 2026 seasons, leading to growing speculation about a possible change in leadership.

In an official statement, CSK said: "The Super Kings and Stephen Fleming have decided to mutually part ways, bringing to a close one of the most successful and enduring partnerships in the history of the Indian Premier League. The decision was reached with respect and gratitude, following a series of open and honest discussions between Fleming and the Super Kings management."

Fleming became part of the Chennai Super Kings setup in the inaugural IPL season in 2008 as a player before taking over as head coach in 2009. Over nearly two decades, he played a central role in establishing CSK as one of the most consistent and admired teams in franchise cricket.
