CAS Delays Vinesh Phogat's Verdict Again; New Decision Date Set for August 16

The 29-year-old Phogat was disqualified from the women's 50kg freestyle final on Wednesday after weighing 100 grams over her permitted limit at the weigh-in.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport's ad-hoc division has pushed back its decision on Vinesh Phogat's appeal against her disqualification from the Olympic finals, pushing the deadline to August 16. It further prolongs the wait of the Indian wrestler.

The 29-year-old Phogat was disqualified from the women's 50kg freestyle final on Wednesday after weighing 100 grams over her permitted limit at the weigh-in.

The CAS ad hoc Division President has granted an extension to Hon. Dr. Annabelle Bennett, the Sole Arbitrator in the Vinesh Phogat vs United World Wrestling and International Olympic Committee case, till 6:00 pm Paris time on Friday, August 16, 2024, the IOA said in a statement.

Phogat has asked in the appeal that she be declared winner of the joint silver medal along with Cuban wrestler Yusneylis Guzman Lopez. Disgraced Guzman Lopez, who had lost to Phogat in the semifinals, eventually made it to the final after the latter's disqualification.
