'Can’t stop tears of joy', says Axar Patel’s mother after India's CT2025 triumph

Indian all-rounder Axar Patel's household was overflowed with joy as they witnessed him play a pivotal part in India's four-wicket win over New Zealand in the 2025 Champions Trophy final. The Patel family in Gujarat went into frenzy with happiness as their son's game helped India lift the coveted title.

Axar, who has bettered his batting greatly, proved vital higher up the order. His 61-run partnership with Shreyas Iyer in the fourth wicket steadied India's innings after India had lost three valuable wickets consecutively.

Axar's father was overjoyed when India won the match and congratulated the entire team for team work.

"Whenever India wins, our home is filled with joy since my son is playing for the nation. The whole team played in unison to get this victory, and I am so happy. I wish to bless all the players for taking the cup," Rajesh Patel told IANS.

While his dad wished him luck, Axar's mother, Preeti Patel, was overjoyed, shedding tears of happiness after India's triumph.

"India has won the Champions Trophy today, and I am so happy that I am not able to suppress my tears of joy. My son played well, and the entire team played superbly. They are taking the trophy home," she said in an interview to IANS.

This win was India's fourth ICC final in two years and their second major title after their victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup. This was India's third Champions Trophy win, after their victories in 2002 (shared with Sri Lanka) and 2013.

Axar's older brother, Sanship Patel, also spoke of how much this meant to his family.

A decade later, India have become champions of the Champions Trophy by defeating New Zealand in the final. It's a true celebratory moment. We are receiving calls from everywhere, and people have overflowed onto the streets to celebrate. The entire road is shut with well-wishers celebrating—it's a moment of sheer bliss," he told IANS.
