Jasprit Bumrah led a brilliant show and kept hosts India alone in the driver's seat to beat archenemies Pakistan on Sunday. Buoyed by the able support, skipper Rohit Sharma urged Bumrah to continue such form for the totality of the T20 World Cup.
"He is going from strength to strength (Bumrah). We all know what he can do. Not going to talk too much about him.
"We want him to be in that mindset throughout the World Cup. He is a genius, we all know that," Rohit couldn't stop praising one of India's greatest fast bowlers. praised Rohit, acknowledging Bumrah's prowess.
Rohit attributed India's confidence in winning the match to the challenging pitch conditions. "With a bowling line-up like that you feel confident to do the job. Halfway through the stage when they were batting, we got everyone together and said that if it can happen to us, it can happen to them."
Despite the victory, Rohit admitted India's batting should have been better, especially after being in a strong position at 89 for 3. "We didn't bat well enough. Halfway through our innings we were in a good position. We didn't put enough partnership there and fell short with the bat," Rohit said about losing 7 wickets for 28 runs.
Recognizing the significance of every run on a challenging pitch, Rohit stressed the importance of collective contributions from the team.
Bumrah, who received consecutive Man of the Match awards, noted the pitch's improved batting conditions in the second half but commended the bowling unit's discipline throughout the game. "We executed our plans well, focusing on hitting the seam for lateral movement," he explained.
Rohit and Bumrah thanked the fans in Nassau for the tremendous support that made them feel like they were in India.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam felt the many dot balls in their innings were a huge concern and ultimately proved to be the turning point in the game. \"We lost wickets in a row and couldn't rotate the strike, which resulted in too many dot balls,\" he reflected.
While the opinions on the pitch drastically varied, Babar noted the requirement for his team to come back in their next matches to ensure a place in the Super Eight round, where Canada and Ireland are also included.
