Australia skipper Pat Cummins still has his worries about whether the Indian star wicketkeeper-batsman, Rishabh Pant, is able to take the game to the best team in the world. On Tuesday, he said his side needs to keep the 26-year-old quiet in the forthcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
The five-match Test series between India and Australia begins on November 22. India and Australia will host Perth, Adelaide-a pink-ball game, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney from November 22 to January 7, 2025.
It was due to Pant's brilliance that India remained the champion for the last four successive BGT, which comprises their famous series wins in 2018-19 and 2020-21, where Pant played a remarkable knock of 89 not out in Gabba and snatched the victory in style to end Australia's 32-year undefeated run at their fortress.
Pant made a spectacular Test cricket comeback against Bangladesh after a wait of 637 days following the near-fatal car crash in December 2022, scoring 109 in the second innings in Chennai to help India to an 280-run win.
"Look, I think every team has one or two of those players who can take the game on.". You know, we've got Travis Head and Mitch Marsh and those guys. I think with those guys, you know that they're going to be aggressive. If you miss your area a little bit, they're going to take the game on. Someone like Rishabh, he might play a reverse lap and it's an incredible shot and that's just part of who he is, said Cummins on Star Sports.
"I reckon we've become a wee bit more accustomed to it nowadays with some of those daft shots becoming a wee bit more prevalent. He's someone who's had a big influence on a couple of series, and we'll have to try and keep him quiet," he added.
India had taken the Border-Gavaskar Trophy when this series was last played in Australia, in 2018/19 and 2020/21. Australia haven't won a Border-Gavaskar Trophy series since 2014-15, when they triumphed 2-0 in Australia.
