NASA's Perseverance Mars rover deploys wind sensor
NASA's Perseverance rover which landed on Mars on February 18 has now deployed its wind sensor, part of the rover's weather station, which is called the Mars Environmental Dynamics Analyzer (MEDA).
India's scientists make low-cost optical telescope for seeing distant quasars, galaxies
Keeping in mind Prime Minister's call to develop technology in all spheres, Indian scientists have indigenously designed and developed a low-cost optical spectrograph. This can locate sources of faint light from distant quasars and galaxies in a very young universe, regions around supermassive black-holes around the galaxies, and cosmic explosions.
SpaceX lands Starship prototype, and then it explodes
SpaceX had said that all four flaps were actuated by an onboard flight computer to control Starship's attitude during flight and enable precise landing at the intended location. But during the landing flip manoeuvre, one of the Raptor engines did not relight and caused SN9 to land at high speed, causing an explosion.

According to the study, published in the journal Nature Geoscience, Earth's surface environment is highly oxygenated -- from the atmosphere to the deepest reaches of the oceans, representing a hallmark of active photosynthetic biosphere.
NASA astronauts complete 7 hour-long spacewalk
The two NASA astronauts began work on Monday to install modification kits required for the upcoming solar array upgrades, the US space agency said in a blog post. The duo worked near the farthest set of existing solar arrays on the station's left side, known as P6.
SpaceX reveals 2nd crew member of all-civilian space mission
Hayley Arceneaux, a 29-year-old physician assistant at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in the US will be the second crew member of Inspiration4, the world's first all-civilian mission to space, SpaceX has announced.
NASA releases audio from Mars, video of Perseverance landing
About 10 seconds into the 60-second recording, a Martian breeze is audible for a few seconds, as are mechanical sounds of the rover operating on the surface. From the moment of parachute inflation, the camera system covers the entirety of the descent process, showing some of the rover's intense ride to Mars' Jezero Crater.
NASA rover sends 1st colour images of Mars, a selfie too
"While NASA's Mars Curiosity rover sent back a stop-motion movie of its descent, Perseverance's cameras are intended to capture video of its touchdown and this new still image was taken from that footage, which is still being relayed to Earth and processed," the US space agency said in a statement on Friday.
Eating more refined grains increase CVD, death risk: Study
Consuming a high number of refined grains -- such as croissants and white bread -- is associated with a higher risk of major cardiovascular disease, stroke and death, a new study suggests.
Indian-American Swati Mohan spearheads NASA rover landing on Red Planet
"Touchdown confirmed! Perseverance is safely on the surface of Mars, ready to begin seeking the signs of past life," cheered Mohan, wearing a mask from the NASA headquarters in the US. The Landing was perceived to be "so dangerous" it was nicknamed "7 minutes of terror".
