Aamir Khan recently threw some light on his sensitive and introspective personality in a session at the ABP Network's Ideas of India 2025, where he spoke at length about how he handles film flops.
The megastar admitted that he takes his films' flops to heart, feeling depressed about it for two or three weeks.
He confessed to crying and thinking about what went wrong, dissecting audience reaction with his team in order to learn from the experience and not make the same mistakes again in upcoming projects.
Khan does not see failure as a negative experience, though. He considers it a learning experience that challenges him to do better and do greater work in the future. His previous two films, Laal Singh Chaddha and Thugs of Hindostan, both underperformed at the box office, with Khan admitting disappointment, especially regarding Laal Singh Chaddha. The actor, who played the remake of Forrest Gump, didn't feel his performance was on par with that of Tom Hanks, acknowledging that he failed to capture the magic that the original movie delivered to viewers.
Khan also gave credit to his family for being with him through thick and thin, particularly when Laal Singh Chaddha did not do well as anticipated. His children Junaid and Ira, wife Kiran Rao, and mother were all present to support him through the emotional turmoil after the release of the film.
But Khan also celebrated the success of his films overseas, especially in China. He touted the success of 3 Idiots in China, mentioning how the movie went huge thanks to piracy, catapulting him to become a star there in a way he never anticipated.
The movie, which initially did well in India, caught on big in China, where pirated copies of the film were freely distributed, making it go viral.
Khan's musings reflect both his determination and vulnerability, and his response to learning from failure demonstrates his commitment to bettering his art. Approaching his 60th birthday, Khan is still dedicated to his love of film-making, leveraging both triumph and failure to power his next endeavors.
