Rahul Gandhi, a prominent figure in Congress leadership, officially submitted his nomination papers for the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency amidst a vibrant display of support during a grand roadshow on Wednesday.
Following the submission, Rahul reaffirmed his deep connection with the people of Wayanad and emphasized the significance of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as a pivotal moment in the defense of democracy.
In a heartfelt address, Rahul stated, "It is both an honor and a humbling experience to once again submit my nomination for the Lok Sabha 2024 from this magnificent region. This election symbolizes a critical juncture in India's journey; it's a battle to safeguard our democratic principles against the forces of division, graft, and inequality that seek to stifle the voice of our nation."
Highlighting the determination of the INDIA alliance, comprising the Congress party and its allies, Rahul asserted their unwavering commitment to ousting the incumbent government from power.
"We, alongside every member of the INDIA alliance, are unwavering in our resolve until victory is achieved. Our mission is to unite citizens from every corner of the country, from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, and from Manipur to Mumbai, to fortify the unity of our diverse nation," he reiterated.
Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi received a warm reception upon his arrival in Wayanad, being greeted as a hero by the locals and party volunteers. Accompanied by senior party leaders, including his sister Priyanka Gandhi, Rahul led an impressive procession, with throngs of people lining the streets to express their support.
Having secured victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from the Wayanad constituency, Rahul Gandhi reflected on his tenure, expressing gratitude for the invaluable lessons and overwhelming affection received from the people of Wayanad over the past five years.
