Probe into Sex Scandal Involving Deve Gowda's Grandson Accelerates; Return to India Imminent, Says Karnataka Home Minister

There is the scandal regarding an alleged sex video scandal, more so as the grandson of a former Prime Minister and JD(S) leader, Prajwal Revanna, gets embroiled in a grand scandal. In this relation, Karnataka's Home Minister, G. Parameshwara, announced on Monday that the SIT would summon the young man back to India for questioning.

Responding to queries, the Home Minister emphasized the urgency of the SIT's investigation, promising that the probe would be expedited. He affirmed that the report would come in ten days at the maximum, since prompt action was necessary to avoid protracted investigations.

As things appeared, the SIT, headed by senior IPS officer B.K. Singh and headed by two women Superintendents of Police, came into being after complaints were filed with the Karnataka State Commission for Women.

Responding to questions, Parameshwara said that his government had no role to play in the investigation process. He defined the modalities. He said that the SIT would pursue the course of action after having obtained the various pen drives used for recording the alleged videos, so that forensic measures could be taken.

In this respect, he confirmed that Prajwal Revanna, who is reported to have traveled abroad, would be called back to India by the SIT for questioning. Moreover, he stated that investigations would be pursued in the case of JD(S) MLA H.D. Revanna after the allegations of sexual harassment brought against him.

As such, he said, the government would pursue the SIT's report and appropriate measures would be taken against the accused.

Besides, he said, the SIT would probe the possibility of other undisclosed pen drives containing similar materials, to avoid further circulation of the same. Parameshwara said that he did not share in any apprehensions of the complainants or the victims. He promised to do whatever is required to ensure safety, if the need arises.

Amidst the unfolding events, the relative of one victim defended her daughter-in-law by stating that she had been coerced into lodging a complaint against the accused. "This is a smear campaign against the Deve Gowda family," she claimed by asserting their innocence.

With the developments in full swing, the SIT only escalated its efforts, bringing into view and gathering statements from five victims, including government officials and political figures, in collaboration with Superintendent of Police Seema Latkar.
