Primarily designed to modernize the outdated colonial-era criminal laws, the three bills concentrate on escalating penalties for crimes such as terrorism, lynching, and offenses that pose a threat to national security.

During the debate in the Upper House last Thursday, Home Minister Amit Shah expressed that the enactment of these bills, replacing the existing legal framework, marks the initiation of a new era in the criminal justice system.
