Opposition MPs Boycott Presentation of Waqf Amendment Bill, Claim It's Used to Malign Congress Chief & Karnataka Govt

Karnataka Wakf Scam Report of 2012 on Monday boycotted the presentation of Waqf Amendment Bill, 2024 by Opposition MPs here.

The Opposition said that it was used in malafide to tarnish the image of the Congress-led Karnataka government and party President Mallikarjun Kharge.

They also sought time by the Speaker on the issue and wrote letters to have the Committee Chairman Jagdambika Pal removed.
The 11-page report included Kharge as one of the accused scammers involved in Wakf land scams.

This report also includes former Congress Ministers like former Union Railway Minister late C.K. Jaffer Shariff, Rehman Khan, Roshan Baig and present Congress MLA Tanveer Sait among others are involved in fraudulent activities for misusing the Wakf property.

According to this report, the Wakf board scam is the biggest in the country and should be investigated by the CBI.

It sought that the board should be kept in suspended animation for at least 12 months or till the investigations reach their logical end.

The report highlighted the fact that despite hue and cry over Wakf Board scam in the last 11 years, Wakf Board crimes are still happening unabated.

This though the detailed reports on Wakf Board scams have been submitted, but these reports were not properly tabled in the Houses.

The scams are the worst instances of financial mismanagement and corruption that have hit the Wakf boards in India, according to Anwar Mannipaddy.

The amendments must be appropriate and secure to bring about justice and promote accountability in the public assets management, he added.

He has urged the Muslim community not to oppose the proposed amendments. It is imperative to let the Central government have a chance to implement these reforms, meant to prevent fraud and embezzlement, and Wakf assets used for genuine benefit to the community, he said.
This is essential to build trust and confidence between the majority and minority communities and foster development in it, he urged.

Shiv Sena-UBT MP Arvind Sawant, Congress's Gaurav Gogoi and Imran Masood, AIMIM's Asaduddin Owaisi, Samajwadi Party's Mohibbullah, DMK's A. Raja and Aam Aadmi Party's Sanjay Singh walked out of the meeting.
