For the upcoming Mizoram Assembly elections scheduled for November 7, a total of 5,306 voters, including senior citizens aged above 80, individuals with disabilities (PwDs), and government officials involved in the election process, have exercised their franchise through home voting and postal ballots, according to officials.
Here's a breakdown of the voting methods used by these groups:
- Senior Citizens and PwDs at Home: Approximately 1,100 senior citizens and PwDs had the opportunity to vote from the comfort of their homes, with election officials present to oversee the process.
- Government Officials through Postal Ballots: A total of 4,206 government officials, including those in security and polling roles, voted through postal ballots at designated counters in 11 districts.
In terms of the distribution of voters in these categories:
- Aizawl District: This district saw the highest participation, with 463 senior citizens and PwD voters exercising their right to vote.
- Serchhip District: 168 senior citizens and PwD voters participated in this district.
- Saitual District: 149 senior citizens and PwD voters exercised their franchise in this district.
