Maharashtra Government Accedes to Marathas' Demands, Agitation Called Off

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is scheduled to visit Navi Mumbai around 8 a.m. to offer a glass of fruit juice to Jarange-Patil, who will be concluding his 3-day hunger strike.

The Maharashtra government has acceded to all the demands of the Maratha community, leading to the conclusion of their agitation early on Saturday. Following successful discussions between Shiv Sanghatana leader Manoj Jarange-Patil and the government delegation held around midnight, an official notification (Government Resolution) was issued by the government. Jarange-Patil, after consulting with his team, decided to call off the agitation.

Key figures involved in the night-long operation included Ministers Mangal Prabhat Lodha and Deepak Kesarkar, along with high-ranking officials such as Social Justice Department Secretary Sumant Bhange, Aurangabad Divisional Commissioner Madhukar Arangal, and CM’s Private Secretary Dr. Amol Shinde.

The news of the government's concession prompted lakhs of Marathas gathered in Navi Mumbai to erupt into dawn celebrations. The atmosphere was filled with drumming, dancing, and singing as the community celebrated the success of their six-month-long campaign.

In light of the positive developments, Maratha leaders announced the cancellation of their plans to enter Mumbai. After a victory rally, the multitude of people from across the state who had gathered will begin returning home.
