Suspended JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna, who faces multiple allegations of sexually abusing women, was arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) shortly after arriving in Bengaluru from Germany early Friday morning.
The 33-year-old MP was taken into custody at Kempegowda International Airport by the SIT upon his return from Munich.
A significant police presence was arranged to ensure his safe transport to the police station for interrogation.
Revanna returned to Bengaluru a month after the scandal erupted, only to be apprehended by Central Industrial Security Forces officers, who subsequently transferred him to the SIT.
Following standard procedures, the SIT was handed over the custody of Revanna, according to media reports.
Exactly one month after leaving the country, Revanna, facing sexual abuse charges, released a video on May 27 stating his intention to appear before the SIT on May 31.
Representing Karnataka's Hassan constituency, Prajwal Revanna is the grandson of JD(S) leader and former Prime Minister H. D. Deve Gowda. He is the NDA candidate from Hassan in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
After incriminating videos emerged showing Revanna abusing multiple women, the Karnataka State Women's Commission called for an investigation, prompting CM Siddaramaiah to initiate a probe.
Revanna departed the country on April 27. The first FIR was filed against him on April 28 by a woman from his household, alleging sexual harassment and criminal intimidation.
Interpol issued a 'Blue Corner Notice' to locate Revanna following a request from the SIT through the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). On May 18, a Special Court for Elected Representatives issued an arrest warrant for Revanna based on the SIT's request.
