Focusing on the welfare of farmers, the underprivileged, and various sections of society, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar of Haryana unveiled a farmer-friendly budget for the fiscal year 2024-25. Despite ongoing farmer protests at the Punjab-Haryana borders, Khattar emphasized his government's commitment to the agricultural sector and announced significant measures to alleviate the financial burdens faced by farmers.
In his budget speech, Khattar underscored the importance of ensuring adequate support and opportunities for farmers, youth, and women. He announced a waiver of interest and penalty on certain crop loans taken by farmers from Primary Agriculture Credit Societies (PACS), providing relief to a large number of agriculturists registered on the MFMB (Meri Fasal Mera Byora) portal.
Furthermore, Khattar doubled the financial compensation to Rs 1 crore for families of soldiers who sacrifice their lives in the line of duty, demonstrating the government's commitment to supporting the armed forces. Additionally, he announced initiatives such as free travel for eligible families on Haryana Roadways and increased financial assistance for freedom fighters.
Addressing environmental concerns, Khattar proposed measures to promote renewable energy, including financial assistance for rooftop solar panel installations. He also highlighted the state's achievements in reducing stubble burning and emphasized the importance of sustainable agricultural practices.
Khattar's budget speech reflected the government's focus on inclusive growth, economic resilience, and environmental sustainability. The proposed initiatives aim to address the immediate needs of farmers and other vulnerable groups while laying the groundwork for long-term prosperity and development in Haryana.
