Even ahead of the oath-taking ceremony of the new MahaYuti government scheduled on Thursday, Maharashtra caretaker Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde congratulated Chief Minister-in-waiting Devendra Fadnavis at his residence, Varsha Bungalow in Mumbai, who was elected as the Leader of the BJP Legislative Party.
More than 10 days after the landslide victory of MahaYuti, Fadnavis will take oath as Chief Minister of Maharashtra on Thursday in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde along with NCP's Ajit Pawar will take oath as Deputy Chief Ministers in the new cabinet, sources said.
The oath-taking ceremony is planned at Mumbai's Azad Maidan and would feature some NDA Chief Ministers along with other leaders.
To end the suspense who finally would be the CM of this state, Fadnavis, Shinde and Pawar had visited to meet Governor CP Radhakrishnan, by stating their claim of setting up the MahaYuti government.
Following his meeting with the Governor, Fadnavis further declared, "The swearing in ceremony of the new government will take place tomorrow at 5:30 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I met Eknath Shinde and appealed him to join us in this government as it is a wish of MahaYuti workers. We would fulfill the promises given to the people of Maharashtra.
Meanwhile, Eknath Shinde on Wednesday said he was satisfied with the two-and-a-half years of the MahaYuti government in Maharashtra, ahead of the swearing-in of Fadnavis as Chief Minister.
"I am very happy with the completion of two-and-a-half years. The work done by our government--the MahaYuti government--by the three of us and our team in the last 2.5 years is remarkable. It will be written in golden letters in history. We are proud to have taken such significant decisions," said Shinde.
It will be Fadnavis's third term at the top post after having been unopposed as the Leader of the Maharashtra BJP Legislative Party on Wednesday.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led MahaYuti alliance won the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly Election with a landslide victory garnering 235 seats out of 288.
The victory marked an important milestone in the electoral history of BJP, emerging as the single-largest party with 132 seats.
The Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party also registered significant victory by winning 57 and 41 seats, respectively.
However, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) bore a significant blow as the Congress party won only 16 seats. Its coalition partner, Shiv Sena (UBT), also managed to win 20 seats while the NCP with Sharad Pawar fraction could win only 10 seats.
