Congress Initiates 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' to Protest BJP Government's Decade of Injustice

Jairam Ramesh, Congress General Secretary, emphasized the challenge of facing an ideology promoting polarization, economic inequalities, and political authoritarianism.

The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, led by Rahul Gandhi, is not just a political journey but an ideological one, according to Congress. Commencing from Thoubal district, the yatra aims to spotlight the perceived injustices of the ten-year Narendra Modi government, focusing on issues like unemployment, price rise, and social justice.

Jairam Ramesh, Congress General Secretary, emphasized the challenge of facing an ideology promoting polarization, economic inequalities, and political authoritarianism. Despite the government's promises of 'amrit kaal' (golden era), Ramesh argued that the last decade was marked by 'anyay kaal' (unjust times).

The yatra, covering 6,713 km through 100 Lok Sabha constituencies in 15 states, is deemed transformative, similar to Rahul Gandhi's previous cross-country march. Congress stressed it's not an electoral yatra but an initiative to address people's issues, given the limited platform in Parliament.

Scheduled for 67 days, traversing 110 districts and 337 assembly constituencies, the yatra concludes in Mumbai on March 20 or 21. It coincides with the BJP's focus on the January 22 Ram temple ceremony, allowing Congress to highlight bread-and-butter issues.

While Gandhi emphasized the misuse of emotional issues, the yatra aims to bring attention to real problems. The Thoubal district will host the flag-off, avoiding Imphal due to the state government's restrictions. Manipur's day on the yatra will address ethnic violence, with Ramesh criticizing the PM's silence on the issue.

The longest stint will be in Uttar Pradesh, covering politically crucial areas, including Amethi, Rae Bareli, and Varanasi. The yatra will traverse Nagaland, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra.

Gandhi will engage with the public, addressing gatherings and interacting with civil society during the yatra. Before its commencement, he will pay homage to martyrs at the Khongjom War Memorial in Thoubal. The Congress hopes this journey will set the narrative for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
