Congress Crisis Continues: Vikramaditya Singh resigns from Council of Ministers in Himachal Pradesh

One day after the unexpected cross-voting of six Congress MLAs during the Rajya Sabha elections, Vikramaditya Singh, the son of the revered six-time Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Virbhadra Singh, tendered his resignation from the Council of Ministers on Wednesday.

Accompanied by staunch loyalists of his late father, including Nand Lal, Mohan Lal Brakta, and Harish Janartha, Vikramaditya Singh expressed his deep distress, lamenting that despite his family's unwavering dedication to the party, his father's legacy seemed to have been overlooked.

Expressing his disappointment, Vikramaditya Singh highlighted the failure of the government to allocate a small plot of land for his late father's statue on Mall Road, portraying it as a symbol of neglect and disregard.

He emphasized the urgency of investigating the underlying causes of the Congress regime's current instability, particularly considering the party's apparent majority in the state.

“The government couldn’t find a small plot of land for my late father's statue on Mall Road. I am very hurt by this," he said.

“There is a need to look into the reasons why the Congress regime is on the brink of collapse and how did such a situation arise when the party has complete majority,” he added.

Reflecting on the past Assembly elections, Vikramaditya Singh recalled the collective leadership under Congress President Pratibha Singh and Mukesh Agnihotri, underscoring the collaborative efforts that led to the formation of the government.

However, he expressed concern over recent events in the state Assembly, indicating a significant cause for alarm.

Asserting his priorities, Vikramaditya Singh stressed that while no position held significance to him, his foremost commitment lay with the people of the state.

He voiced grievances regarding the marginalization of legislators, negligence, and fiscal mismanagement, issues he claimed to have repeatedly raised with the party's High Command in Delhi, only to be disregarded.

Describing instances of humiliation as a Cabinet Minister, Vikramaditya Singh criticized the undermining messages sent to him, advocating for mutual respect within the Council of Ministers.
