Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday performed special rituals on the auspicious first day 'Pratipada' of Sharadiya Navratri at Gorakshapeeth here.
The ceremony was conducted with Vedic rituals as per the ancient traditions of the Peeth, said an official statement.
Adityanath, who also is the Gorakshapeethadhiswar, installed the ceremonial 'kalash' (earthen pot) amidst Vedic chants, the release said.
On the first day of Navratri, chief minister also visited Maa Shailputri today. According to the release, religious verses for the day were concluded with the worship of Maa Jagatjanani with 'Devi Paath' and 'aarti'.
Earlier in the day, there was a grand Kalash Shobha Yatra within the temple premises of Gorakhnath temple.
The assembly of the saints and sages was trailed by the sweet metallic sounds of traditional instruments, which included the ringing of bells, the braying of trumpets, and the blowing of conches. The head priest of the temple, Yogi Kamalnath, led the procession in chants of Maa Durga's name.
