Chirag Paswan Blasts Nitish Government Over Surge in Crime, Calls for Accountability

Paswan referred to the increasing volume of criminal activity in Bihar, affirming that public safety must be an every-government responsibility, no matter the party.

Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) president Chirag Paswan has released a blistering attack on the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar on Saturday, showing extreme distress regarding the state's worsening law and order scenario.

Paswan referred to the increasing volume of criminal activity in Bihar, affirming that public safety must be an every-government responsibility, no matter the party.

"Everyone needs to do their job. Whether our government or the other's, crime cannot be dealt with like this," he said, calling upon both the government and police to take strict action against the offenders.

His statement follows a horrific killing of a young singer in Vaishali, which has joined a long list of violent crimes in the state. Discussing the consequences, Paswan insisted that responsibility should not be limited to low-ranking officers.
"Taking away police station officials will not suffice; action should be taken against top officials too," he stated.

The state capital Patna has in recent times witnessed a series of brutal crimes, adding to the country's general anxiety. On Thursday, in one of the most shocking attacks, five gun-wielding attackers raided Paras Hospital in the neighborhood of Shastri Nagar and killed gangster Chandan Mishra. Mishra was charged with more than two dozen criminal offenses, including murder, and had been in prison since 2024. He was receiving treatment at the hospital.

The assailants, it is reported, came on motorbikes, rode to the second floor room 209, and shot Mishra dead at point-blank range, leaving him dead where he stood.

Other high-profile murders in recent months—of industrialist Gopal Khemka, sand trader Ramakant Yadav, grocery merchant Vikram Jha, and advocate Jitendra Kumar—have put the state's policing under close scrutiny.

Paswan also criticized a recent inflammatory remark by ADG Kundan Krishnan that associated crime with the farming community. He labeled the comment "an insult to the food providers of the country" and called for more responsibility from police officials at the highest levels.

He emphasized that the government needs to act tough against criminal forces to regain people's confidence. "The government has to take drastic measures to convey a strong message to society," he stated.

Switching focus to politics, Paswan criticized the Opposition alliance INDIA, declaring its regular meetings ineffective without any actionable follow-ups.
"Having meetings is immaterial if there are no tangible outcomes," he stated, making a veiled dig at the opposition bloc.

Regarding the matter of employment in Bihar, Paswan showed favor towards job generation but implied dissatisfaction regarding potential political abuse of the subject.
"Offering jobs is a positive. But there is apprehension of demand for land by opposition in return for jobs," he said, nudging at a veiled reference to RJD leader Lalu Prasad and Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav during a series of controversies surrounding employment schemes.".
