In the second phase of voting for the Chhattisgarh Assembly election, a substantial 68.15% of voters exercised their franchise across 70 out of the total 90 seats, according to official reports.
Data released by the Election Commission on the Voter Turnout App revealed Dhamtari district had the highest voter turnout at 79.89%, while Raipur district recorded the lowest turnout.
With the completion of the final phase of polling, the fate of prominent figures like Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Deputy T.S. Singh Deo, and several other leaders contesting in this election now rests in the EVMs.
However, amidst the electoral process, an unfortunate incident occurred as an ITBP jawan fell victim to an IED blast allegedly orchestrated by the Maoists in the Gariaband region. The explosion occurred near Bade Gobra village when a polling team, under security escort, was returning from a voting station.
Confirming the incident, IG Raipur Range Arif Sheikh stated, "The blast was carried out by the Maoists targeting the polling party as they were returning from Bade Gobra polling station. ITBP head constable Joginder Singh lost his life in the blast."
In Chhattisgarh, while the primary battle remains between the BJP and the Congress, several seats in the Bilaspur division witness a three-way contest, significantly influenced by former CM Ajit Jogi's party and the BSP.
The initial phase of elections for 20 seats occurred on November 7, recording a substantial voter turnout of 78%.
The election results, alongside four other states - Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Mizoram - will be declared on December 3, marking the culmination of this electoral cycle.
