In the custody of the Delhi Police third Battalion, Manish Sisodia, a prominent leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, was granted permission to visit his ailing wife at his previous official residence.
Sisodia, currently incarcerated in connection to an excise policy case, sought this permission on humanitarian grounds. The Rouse Avenue court, acknowledging the compassionate nature of the request, sanctioned the visit.
Transported from Tihar jail to his former official residence, which now belongs to AAP's current Education Minister, Atishi, the meeting transpired on Saturday within the allocated hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Special Judge M K Nagpal, overseeing the case, specified that Sisodia would be under police custody throughout the permitted duration.
The residence change occurred after Sisodia resigned from the Deputy Chief Minister position. Despite facing opposition from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED), who insisted on an interim bail application, the court approved the visit.
Sisodia's application had initially requested a five-day visit while in custody, raising concerns from the investigative agencies about the legal basis for such a request. This episode underscores the delicate balance between legal proceedings and humanitarian considerations in high-profile cases.
