Former President of India, popularly known as "Missile Man" or "People's President" , Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was born on October 15, 1931. Dr. Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was born in Dhanushkodi, Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu. He was an aerospace scientist who played an instrumental role in the May 1998 Pokhran-II nuclear tests. Because of his contributions in the development of ballistic missile and launch vehicle technology, he earned the title "Missile Man of India". It is important to know that his birth anniversary is observed as World Students' Day. Dr. Kalam remained President of India from 2002 to 2007. Before he became the first citizen of India, he worked with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) as an aerospace engineer. Dr. Kalam was awarded Padma Bhushan in 1981, Padma Vibhushan in 1990 and Bharat Ratna in 1997 for his work in science and politics.
