External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar underscored the transformative changes witnessed by India in the past decade, emphasizing that these developments lay the foundation for the country's future. Speaking at an interactive session organized by Delhi University's Miranda House College on the theme 'Future of India,' Jaishankar highlighted key achievements such as the success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission and the efficient production of COVID-19 vaccines in India.
Jaishankar commended India's progress in various fields over the last ten years, including digitalization, advancements in education, narrowing the gender gap, skill development, fostering a startup culture, and extending the reach of welfare schemes. He stressed that India, as a democracy, has not only preserved its values but has also delivered benefits to all segments of society.
The foundation for India's future, according to Jaishankar, rests on democracy, talent, technology, and tradition. He urged continued efforts to nurture and build democracy, cautioning against taking it for granted, as in many countries worldwide, democracy is not readily available.
Discussing India's global position, Jaishankar highlighted that the world recognizes Indian talent, creating a demand for it in the global market. He emphasized that India's progress is rooted in its traditions and values, asserting that Indian modernity is based on these inherent principles.
Addressing India's ranking on the world democracy index, Jaishankar acknowledged the existence of biases in global politics and emphasized the need to consider the index with this context in mind. On the Israel-Palestine conflict, he condemned a terrorist attack in Israel while also recognizing pressing issues such as the hostage situation and the need to establish a humanitarian corridor.
