If you have a passion for achieving something big, you can do it with your enthusiasm and planning. That's what Ritesh Agarwal did. He is the owner of India's most prominent hospitality chain, OYO Rooms which means ''Of Your Own Rooms''. OYO provides safe and secure rooms to its customers at a reasonable price.
Born in the small town of Odisha Bissam Cuttack on 16 November 1993, Ritesh Agarwal was computer genius from his childhood. At the age of 8, he started coding and after that computer became his first love. Ritesh loved to learn computer programming languages, and by the time he entered 10th grade, he built enormous interest in studying those languages. Ritesh did his schooling from Sacred Heart School.
And when he was 16, he was selected for Asian Science Camp which was organised by Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. Agarwal earned his high school degree from St. Johns Senior Secondary School.
Ritesh used to be a travel enthusiast; he loves to travel to different places with his friends. And from this, he discovered the idea of arranging budget-friendly hotels for the travellers.
In 2012, the boy from Odisha, Ritesh started his first company as Oravel Stays, whose main motive was to provide rooms to the traveller at cheap cost. Later, he got investment from Venture Nursery of 30 Lakhs. But the start-up was closed because of the quality concerns. He later worked on all his imperfections and in 2013 Ritesh started OYO rooms.
From that time until now, the company never looked back and generated an immense amount of profit. With the booking of around Rs 1 Crore per month, OYO Rooms has now expanded its business to several countries like UAE, Malaysia, Nepal, United Kingdom and many more. Looking at the strategies, the company received funds from big ventures like Lights Ventures Partners, DSG Consumer Partners and Sequoia Capital and Greenoaks Capital. And today the company valuation is over $400million. Not only this Ritesh Agarwal was honoured as the Business World Young Entrepreneur Award.
