Dieter Schwarz: Know the owner of Schwarz Group

Dieter started his career by joining his father’s business “Lidl & Schwarz KG” and worked hard in his company also learned business tactics from him. After joining his father’s business, he opened the company's first discount supermarket. In the year 1977, Dieter took control of the discount chain after the death of his father and later he took over the position of CEO of the company. 

Dieter Schwarz is the owner of the Schwarz Group, a multinational retail group which operates grocery shops under the brands Lidl and Kaufland. Schwarz Group was founded in the year 1930 by Josef Schwarz, father of Dieter. The company is one of the largest European retailers. As of March 2023, Dieter Schwarz has $ 4.3 billion net worth according to Forbes.

After becoming the CEO, Dieter put his effort for the growth of the company. He expanded it outside of Germany and later he bought the naming rights for Lidl. Later in the year 2004 Schwarz stepped down from the position of the Schwarz Group’s CEO and Klaus Gehrig took over his position. In the year 2013 Dieter was named as 23rd richest person in the world in the Hurun Report Global Rich list while in the year 2021 he was named as 61st richest person in the world in the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Dieter Schwarz was born on 24th of September, 1939 in Heilbronn, Germany. He completed his education in Germany. Schwarz got married to Franziska Weipert and they have two daughters.
