Amancio Ortega is the co-founder and former chairman of Inditex fashion group a Spanish multinational company. Inditex is known for its chain of Zara and Bershka clothing and accessories shop. Amancio Ortega founded Inditex with his ex-wife Rosalia Mera in 1985. As of January 2023, Amancio Ortega has $ 67.1 Billion net worth, according to Forbes.
Ortega started his career with working in shop of local shirtmaker called Gala and from there he learned making clothes by hand. In 1960 he started a clothing industry and worked hard for developing his designs. He and his wife Rosalia used to make clothes at home and earned money. With the help of this money, they were able to open a small factory to sell the Clothes. In the year 1975, they opened their first store named as Zara which produce popular fashion at low cost and with the efforts of Amancio, Zara began to expand and kept on opening more stores and factory in Spain.
Amancio’s company started to develop new designs and methods of distributing the products and they designed a system for its distribution in 1985 Inditex Group (or Industria de Diseño Textil S.A.) was founded as the parent company for Zara and its manufacturing plants. Ortega worked for the growth of his company and in the year 1998, the company launched Bershka brand and aimed at urban hip fashion.
Due to proper guidance of Ortega, Inditex achieved great heights and in 2003, it launched Zara Home brand for home décor products. Inditex has also launched the lingerie and women’s clothing stores and the company started to grow rapidly and now Inditex ‘s Zara is one the famous fashion brand all over the world. Ortega has achieved many awards in his life and in 2017, at AEF awards, he was honored with Philanthropic Initiative Category.

With continuous growth of his Company in the Year 2015, Amancio Ortega was named as the world’s richest man while in the 2022, Amancio Ortega was the 3rd wealthiest person in Europe. He was also named as 18th wealthiest person in the world.
Amancio Ortega was born on 28th March 1936, in Busdongo de Arbas in León, Spain. Ortega left his School and moved to A Coruña due his father’s job and joined the shop. Ortega Married Rosalia Mera Goyenechea and they had 2 children- son Marcos and Daughter Sandra Ortega Mera. The couple separated in the year 1986. In the 2001, Amanico Ortega got married to Flora Pérez Marcote and they had a daughter Marta Ortega Pérez.
