Indian cricket's emerging star Rinku Singh opened a new chapter away from cricket when he got engaged to Member of Parliament Priya Saroj on June 8.
The close-knit ceremony was hosted at The Centrum Hotel in Lucknow and was attended by close family members, friends, and chosen dignitaries from politics and cricket.
Before the wedding, Rinku, with his family, visited the Chaudhera Wali Vichitra Devi Temple in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, to receive blessings. The bride and groom arrived together, beautifully dressed in coordinated white and pink outfits, creating a calm and cheerful atmosphere for the celebration.
The ceremony of the engagement took place in the nicely decorated Fulcurn Hall, with flowers and bright lighting that enhanced the nice atmosphere. The guest list was VIP-only, with more than 300 guests attending, such as former cricketers Praveen Kumar and Piyush Chawla, Uttar Pradesh Ranji captain Aryan Juyal, and political bigwigs like Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, MPs Jaya Bachchan, Dimple Yadav, Iqra Hasan—Priya's closest friend—and senior leaders Professor Ram Gopal Yadav and Congress leader Rajeev Shukla. A video of the intimate moment of the couple holding hands has since emerged, winning over fans.
The elegant 12x16-foot stage was the focal point of the ceremony, and so was the culinary experience. The couple handpicked a Lucknowi-inspired menu that offered an all-vegetarian meal with regional Awadhi touches blended with Bengali sweets such as rasgulla and kaju-paneer rolls and international starters that ranged across European to Asian influences. The guests were greeted with kuhara, a cool coconut-based dish served at live counters. Paneer tikka and matar malai, Rinku's favourites, were prominently placed, along with dishes like malai kofta, kadai paneer, veg manchurian, and spring rolls.
For comfort and security, 15 rooms were pre-booked at the venue, five for Rinku's closest friends. Entry was tightly restricted using barcoded passes, and a combined security force of private police and local authorities kept a high watch during the event.
Rinku had a rather subdued IPL 2025 season with the Kolkata Knight Riders, contributing 206 runs at a 29.42 average and a staggering strike rate of 153.73. Though the team ended eighth on the table with 12 points (five wins from 14 games), Rinku's attacking nature continued to be seen.
Internationally, Rinku is India's T20I team pillar. In 30 T20 internationals, he has scored 507 runs at a batting average of 46.09 and strike rate of 165.14 with three half-centuries. Ever since his debut against Ireland in 2023, he still awaits his first international century.
He has also played two One-Day Internationals and has an outstanding domestic record. In 52 List A matches, Rinku has made 1,899 runs at an average of 48.69, with a strike rate of 94.8, reflecting his consistency and future prospects.
