“This was never about money”: Johnny Depp might not take $15M from Amber Heard

Despite the court order, now it seems like Johnny may not make his ex-wife Amber, whom he had sued for USD 50 million for allegedly defaming him in an open letter, she wrote to Washington DC, pay the USD 10.35 million in damages. The statement came out after Depp’s lawyer, Benjamin Chew sat down for an interview with a media outlet. During the interview, Chew hinted that there are possibilities that Heard may not have to pay the money.

The file of Hollywood actor Johnny Deep and Amber Heard’s defamation case got closed with the decision of the Jury falling in Johnny’s favor. As a result of the case, Depp was awarded 15 million dollars as damages while Amber was awarded $2 Million. But not it seems like Johnny might not take $15M from Amber Heard.

The statement came out after Depp’s lawyer, Benjamin Chew sat down for an interview with a media outlet. During the interview, Chew hinted that there are possibilities that Heard may not have to pay the money.

When the host asked if Depp would agree to a settlement in case Heard agrees to not appeal the case in exchange for waiving the punitive damages, Chew affirmed saying that it was being discussed.

"We obviously can't disclose any attorney-client communications, but as Mr. Depp testified and as we both made clear in our respective closings, this was never about money for Mr. Depp," Chew was heard saying on the show. The lawyer added that the case was about restoring Depp’s reputation and that he had succeeded in doing so.

On the other hand, a few days Amber’s lawyer Elaine Bredehoft told another Television show that currently her client is not in the position of paying the damages to Depp.

For the unreversed, the case between Amber and Depp started back in 2018, when Amber wrote an open letter to Washington DC, in which she claimed that she has been a victim of domestic violence. Even though she didn’t mention Depp’s name anywhere in the letter, Depp claimed that it hurt his reputation and damaged his career. He sued Heard for defamation and ultimately won 10.35 million in damages.
