Selena Gomez Reflects on Her ‘It Girl Era’: ‘I Was So Depressed Back Then’

Singer and actress Selena Gomez recently opened up about her past—the period when she was in the hounding mode of the paparazzi and also in a relationship with American pop star Justin Bieber.

Now happy in her relationship with music producer Benny Blanco, Gomez talked about her emotional state back then. Her words came after throwback footage was shared on social media Saturday that showed her interacting with fans and being photographed. The video had a musical tone featuring Bieber's song "Company," with the caption stating how her past self would have never dated Blanco during her "IT GIRL era."

The video further insinuated that the old Gomez wouldn't have been into Blanco. In response, Gomez wrote, "It kind of makes me laugh because I was so depressed back then lol.".

She was in an on-again, off-again relationship with Bieber for eight years. After breaking up in 2018, Bieber reportedly married Hailey Bieber and is now expecting their first child.

She's had nothing but praise for how Blanco has treated her, recently gushing on social media in December that he has treated her "better than any human being on this planet." She said to Time magazine that she hadn't let "the most hurtful things" said by critics get to her.

To celebrate her 32nd birthday, Blanco gave her a necklace he'd had specially made, featuring his initial: 14-karat gold and diamonds along with other jewels.
